Bone marrow is an easily accessible organ which normally lacks any epithelial cells. Thus, consecutive marrow samples can be taken from individual patients and “foreign” epithelial cells can be easily detected by use of anti-cytokeratin monoclonal antibodies. Moreover, bone or bone marrow is one of the major sites of skeletal metastasis in several types of epithelial tumors, including cancer of the breast, prostate or lung." @default.
