- W3022969182 abstract "This chapter explains the underlying principles of pulse amplification that is used in the generation of laser beams. Many applications require higher energies or peak powers for laser generation and researchers are seeking methods to shorten pulses, and to increase peak powers and peak intensities on targets. Amplification, combined with the initial pulse stretching and compression as a final stage, can convert terawatt systems into petawatt lasers with sub-picosecond pulses. The theoretical background of the pulse amplification is provided with an illustration. The pulses emitted from the oscillator can be amplified in devices called amplifiers and the design features and the important configurations of amplifiers are explained. The operation of a regenerative amplifier is explained with illustrations. The chirped pulse amplification (CPA) is explained and presented with a figure for the reader to understand better. The chapter contains illustrations for the principle of the pulse compression, pulse stretching, pulse stretching with a single grating-curved mirror combination and fiber laser amplification system is explained. References to resources are provided at the end." @default.
