It is impossible to understand the properties of polymers if the transitions that occur in such materials and specifically the temperatures at which these occur are not known. The chapter discusses the two main transitions—the glass-rubber transition and the crystalline melting point. Several other transitions of secondary importance may often be observed. As to the denomination of these transitions, there is a complete lack of uniformity. Transition temperatures are extremely “structure-sensitive,” partly due to steric effects and partly due to intra-molecular and inter-molecular interactions." @default.
