- W3023556659 abstract "This chapter discusses the two ways that are used to exploit the multi-element array antennas. The first way is based on the beam forming and the array signal processing, while the second way is based on MIMO (multiple-input, multiple-output channel). The chapter reviews the transmit diversity techniques—including most of the space-time codes and the results on the capacity of single links . One of the examples is: the capacity of a MIMO channel with non-linearly modulated finite alphabet signals in Syko04 show that the capacity scales linearly with the rank of the channel matrix as known for an unconstrained (linear) channel. To obtain the maximum capacity, the energy distribution on the eigen modes is optimized according to the water filling principle. While in Fise04, when the discrete energy levels are used instead of the continuously optimized energy levels, the capacity degradation is marginal. The chapter concludes by reviewing the implications of the MIMO techniques for complete wireless systems." @default.
