- W3025495145 abstract "Policy communication research involves numerous policy topics, ranging from health to education to the environment and many more domains. This chapter discusses the theories and methodologies that have been productive for connecting scholarship to practice. It also discusses three issues central to engaging multiplicity in policy communication: power, multiple stakeholders, and contradictions. The chapter explores the pragmatic implications of policy communication research and future directions for applied communication research. Policy discourses, which are a material manifestation of organizational ideologies, mirror and reproduce gendered effects. Structuration theory, structurating activity theory, and institutional theory represent alternatives to critical theory when analyzing policy communication. A relatively recent element of policy communication is the use of social media and other information communication technologies to engage multiple stakeholder groups." @default.
