- W3025794335 abstract "The nanoscaled unique physicochemical properties of carbon nanotubes are offered many types of applications in biomedical field. Due to high hydrophobicity and less dispersibility in the biological medium, carbon nanotubes are functionalized with many bioactive compounds. The functionalized carbon nanotubes had less toxicity problem and became efficient, nontoxic drug delivery vehicles. The antibacterial activities of carbon nanotubes are also studied well along with other biomedical applications. Many antibiotics and drugs are using for the control of bacterial infections. However, bacterial infections have developed resistance to these traditional antibiotics, drugs, and host immunity through various mechanisms. The continuous increase of bacterial drug resistance has been challenged to develop novel antibacterial agents. The functionalized carbon nanotubes will become promising antibacterial agents due to their nanosized properties. The functionalized carbon nanotubes are exploited in various medical and non-medical fields. Many studies have been reported on functionalized carbon nanotubes role in drug delivery, diagnosis, and therapy including antibacterial activity by various mechanisms. This book chapter focuses on different carbon nanotubes and their functionalization, antibacterial activity, and mechanisms of functionalized carbon nanotubes." @default.
