- W302688786 abstract "submit that there is much more consensus, much more agreement about land use objectives in our society today than there is disagreement. And bear in mind also that I am referring to the North Carolina-South CarolinaVirginia locale: I have no illusion that this statement is all-inclusive, especially of the large megalopitan areas of our country. The urban area should not be too large. It should not be unmanageable; and it should be of human scale. At the same time it should contain sufficient diversity of opportunity to make it enjoyable, satisfying and profitable to live and work in. An urban area of 100,000 to 2-300,000 is of good size. There should be a range of smaller urban areas, each large enough to support proper municipal services and to provide efficient employment opportunities. There should be small communities or villages, small enough so that those municipal services which are necessary for larger concentrations-especially sewerage systems are not necessary. There should not be the town too large not to have good municipal services but too small to afford them. The central business section of the urban areas should be attractive, well stocked with stores and offices, convenient for shopping and with good vehicular access, and pleasant for the" @default.
