- W3028991942 abstract "ObjectiveTo investigate the incidence and recurrence of pterygium in plateau area, and to analyse the related risk factors.MethodsThe random cluster sampling method was selected in accordance with the study of 12 samples for field investigation in Kangba area as the research area. A complete questionnaire and eye examination system of local residents were completed by the investigation team. The incidence of pterygium and postoperative recurrence were analyzed statistically, and the risk factors of pterygium were analyzed by multivariate Logistic regression analysis.ResultsThe inspection rate of this survey was 77.77% (1 994/2 564), and the pterygium incidence was 38.97% (777/1 994). The incidence rate of female was 42.75% (545/1 275), which was significantly higher than that of male 32.27% (232/719); the incidence rate of binocular pterygium was 22.57% (450/1 994), which was significantly higher than that of monocular pterygium 16.40% (327/1 994); the incidence rate of daytime outdoor activity time ≥4 h was 45.83% (693/1 512), which was significantly higher than that of daytime outdoor activities time <4 h 17.43% (84/482); the incidence rate of non wearing glasses in outdoor activities was 47.88% (665/1 389), which was significantly higher than that of wearing glasses 18.51% (112/605); and the differences were all statistically significant (P<0.01). Multi factor Logistic regression analysis showed that age, sex, daytime outdoor activities time, and wearing glasses in outdoor activities were the risk factors of pterygium (P<0.01). The recurrence rate of pterygium in female patients was 3.30% (18/545) after 1 year, which was significantly higher than that in males 1.72% (4/232) (P<0.05).ConclusionsThe incidence rate of pterygium in plateau area is more concentrated in female, both eyes, long time on outdoor and non wearing glasses in outdoor habits. The age, gender, daytime outdoor activity time, and whether wearing glasses will increase the risk of pterygium, and women have a higher recurrence rate of pterygium.Key words: Pterygium/EP/SU; Incidence; Risk factors; Recurrence" @default.
