The goals of research are 1) to identify the kinds of directive utterances in the script,2) to find out the implementation of politeness principles in expressing directives,3) to find out the context of the implementation of politeness principles of directive utterances. There are some steps in conducting this research: data collection, data reduction, data analysis, and drawing conclusion. This research uses document analysis and purposive sampling in collecting the data. The source of data is dialogue script of “Up” film. There are 30 data of directive utterances. This research uses Leech’s theory to analyze the politeness principles. Before analyzing the politeness principles, the researcher explains the context to get better understanding. The results of the research are 1) every directive utterance in script has its own context, 2) the form of politeness principles on directive utterances of “Up” film are many and varied, 3) context takes important role in the implementation of politeness principles of directive utterances in the script. The conclusion of this research has shown the implementation of various politeness principles: tact, generosity, approbation, modesty, agreement, and sympathy in the script of “Up” film." @default.
