Methods Forty spermspecimens from 70 male infertility patients were separated by the passivelypolydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microfluidic chip sorting device, which was home-made, and thesemen parameters such as sperm motility, morphology and hypoosmotic swelling rate werecompared before and after the experiments. Meanwhile, 30 motile sperm samples wereprepared by density gradient centrifugal separation in order to assess sperm motilityusing PDMS microfluidic chip. Results There was significant difference between pre-sortingand post-sorting in terms of sperm motility, morphology and hypoosmotic swelling rate.Sperm motility was increased from (29.4±8.1)% to (94.2±3.3)% (t=24.58,P 0.05]. Conclusions The morphologically normal spermatozoa and strongly activespermatozoa could be obtained by PDMS microfluidic chip sorting device, which is a novelscatheless method for sperm motile sorting from semen without centrifugation. Thistechnology may show a good application in sorting motile spermatozoa in vitrofertilization in future." @default.
