- W3029926791 abstract "ObjectiveTo investigate the expressions of aquaporin-4 (AQP4) and Na+ -K+ -2Cl- Cotransporter 1(NKCC1) in the early stage of open craniocerebral injury coupled with seawater immersion and the association with cerebral edema and the damage of blood brain barrier.MethodsOne hundred and two SD rats were chosen for the study. Brain injury was induced by controlled cortical impact (CCI). With the development of the animal models, the injured brain tissue was immersed in artificial seawater or normal physiological saline. The animals were divided into the seawater immersion group and the normal saline group, each consisting of 54 animals. Another 17 rats were designated as the control group. Changes in pathology, brain water content, opening of blood brain barrier, as well as the expression levels of AQP4 and NKCC1 were closely observed at the time points of 3 hours, 8 hours and 24 hours after immersion.ResultsAs compared with those of the normal saline group, the expression level of AQP4 in the seawater immersion group was significantly lower at hour 3(0.222±0.018)and hour 8 (0.228±0.015)after immersion, while its expression level elevated significantly at hour 24 after immersion(0.462±0.013)and even surpassed that of the normal saline group. The expression level of NKCC1 at hour 24 after immersion in the seawater immersion group decreased significantly(0.050±0.012).ConclusionsSeawater immersion could cause severe cerebral edema, which was characteristic of open craniocerebral injury with seawater immersion. The expression level of AQP4 after seawater immersion displayed the features of inhibiting the expression first and decreasing the expression second, and the reason for the change of water content in the brain tissue was worth further research.Key words: Open craniocerebral injury; Seawater immersion; Aquaporin-4; Na+ -K+ -2Cl- Cotranspoyter 1" @default.
