- W3030148397 abstract "Objective To explore the sugar metabolism of 36,809 individuals receiving physical examination basing on their blood sugar levels and the age distribution characteristics of abnormal blood sugar. Methods The clinical data of 36,809 individuals receiving physical examination at Second People's Hospital of Guangdong Province from July,2008 to July,2013 were statistically analyzed. They were divided into 7 groups according to their ages. The FPG records and its relationship with sex and age were compared and analyzed. Results FPG gradually increased with and positively correlated with age (r =0.266,P < 0.001).The FPG level was higher in the male than in the female in all age groups, with statistical differences between the groups 20 to 69 years old (P < 0.01).The hyperglycemia' s detection rate increased with age and was higher in the male than in the female, with statistical differences between the groups 20 to 59 years old (P < 0.01).The detection rate would be increased if the cut-off point of IFG was reduced. The average blood glucose levels and the number constituent ratio of the male were higher than those of the female when the FPG was over 7.0 mmol/L (P=0.019,0.000).Conclusions These people' s fasting plasma glucose levels and hyperglycemia detection rate increased with age; the detection of hyperglycemia was getting younger and younger. Therefore, sufficient guidance for monitoring and prevention is needed.Examining fasting blood glucose is an important way for discovering hyperglycemia.Lowering the IFG cut-point helps improve the prediction of diabetes susceptibility.Key words: Fasting plasma glucose; Diabetes mellitus; Hyperglycemia; Physical examination" @default.
