- W3030349898 abstract "Objective To summarize experience in surgical management of adenocarcinoma of the pancreatic body and tail and investigate therapeutic effects of the management. Methods The data of 42 cases of adenocarcinoma of the pancreatic body and tail treated in our department from 1987 to 1998 were retrospectively analyzed. Results Of the 42 patients, 30 were subjected to an exploratory operation. Out of the 30 patients, 12 received resection of lesions (resecting rate=40%). Among these 12, 9 survived for 1 year, 5 for 2 years and 2 for 3 years after the resection. All those patients with non-resectable tumors had a mean survival time of 4.4 months (1.2-10.5 months). Conclusions As expected, the prognosis of adenocarcinoma of the pancreatic body and tail is poor and the 5-year survival rate in patients is very low. However, resection of the pancreas can significantly incrase the survival time of patients, especially those with the tumor limited to the gland." @default.
