- W3030721049 abstract "Objective To study the prognostic role of survivin expressed in cholangiocarcinoma. Methods Forty-eight cases of cholangiocarcinoma were studied. Immunohistochemistry was performed u-sing a monoclonal antibody to survivin. Survivin expression was described as absent or weak and strong. Results Cytoplasmic and nuclear survivin expression was seen in 26 and 22 patients respectively. Strong cytoplasmic survivin expression was seen in 12 cases and strong nuclear survivin in 8. Patients with strong nuclear survivin had a median survival of 10 months, significantly lower than for patients with weak nuclear survivin expression (19months,P ＜0.05). Multivariate analysis using the Cox-propertional hazards model identified 3 important prognostic predictors: nuclear survivin (P ＜ 0.05) and presence of metastasis (P ＜0.05). Conclusion Nuclear survivin expression in cholangiocarcinoma may predict a poor prognosis.Key words: Survivin; Cholangiocarcinoma; Immunohistochemistry" @default.
