- W3031065612 abstract "Objective To investigate the relationship between serum cytokines (IL-1β,IL-6 and TNF-α) and poststroke depression (PSD) in the elderly.Methods Serum levels of IL-1β,IL-6 and TNF-α in 36 PSD patients ( PSD group) and 32 patients without depression after stroke ( control group) were measured with ELISA.According to score of the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression ( HAMD),the PSD patients were divided into mild group (HAMD score of 8-16; 9 cases),moderate group (17-23; 17 cases)and severe group ( ≥34; 10 cases).The serum levels of IL-1β,IL-6 and TNF-α in each group were detected and analyzed.Results The serum levels of IL-1β,IL-6 and TNF-α in PSD group were (35.2±4.2) ng/L,(11.3±4.3) ng/L and (32.4±6.9 )ng/L respectively,higher than that in control group[(18.1 ± 3.3 ) ng/L,(6.1 ± 1.9) ng/L and (21.6 ± 4.8) ng/L respectively,P ＜ 0.01 ].The serum levels of IL-1β,IL-6 and TNF-α in severe group were (41.8 ±3.2)ng/L,( 17.5 ±5.7)ng/L and (38.8 ±5.8) ng/L respectively,higher than that in mild group[(29.1 ± 2.3) ng/L,(6.6 ± 1.7) ng/L and (25.9 ±3.3) ng/L respectively,P ＜ 0.05 ] and moderate group[(34.6 ± 2.6) ng/L,( 10.2 ± 3.5 ) ng/L and(32.1 ± 3.6) ng/L respectively,P ＜ 0.05 ],and so were higher in moderate depression group than mild depression group (P ＜ 0.05 ).The significant correlation were found between the severity of depression and the serum levels of IL-1β( r =0.637),IL-6 (r =0.698) and TNF-α(r =0.722) (P ＜0.01 ).Conclusion IL-1β,IL-6 and TNF-α may play an important role in pathogenesis of poststroke depression.Key words: Cerebrovascular accident; Depression; Cytokines" @default.
