- W3032687463 abstract "Objective To investigate special AT-rich sequence binding protein 1 (SATB1) ex-pression and its clinical significance in the rectal cancer tissues. Methods The expression of SATB1 mRNA and protein was detected by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (Real-time PCR) and immunohistochemical staining respectively in 80 cases of rectal cancer. The correlations between SATB1 expression and clinicopathological factors and its prognostic significance were statistically analyzed. Results The relative levels of SATB1 mRNA in rectal cancer tissues and normal tissues were 1.93 ± 0.36 and 0.75 ±0.19,respectively.The positive rate of SATB1 protein in cancer and control tissues was 42.5%and 6.25%,respectively.Both SATB1 mRNA and protein expression was significantly up-regulated in rectal cancer specimens as compared with that in normal tissues (P <0.05 for both),and the SATB1 mRNA expression agreed well with the immunohistochemical findings (r =0.649 ; P < 0.05).Moreover,SATB1 expression was positively correlated with higher TNM stage, lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis (P < 0.05 for each). Conclusion Over-expression of SATB1 could be associated with the developmental and metastatic potential of human rectal cancer.Key words: Special AT-rich sequence binding protein 1 ; Rectal cancer; Metastasis ; Prognosis" @default.
