- W3035842020 abstract "A major challenge in drug discovery is the decline in R&D productivity, largely driven by the high attrition rate in the clinic. In order to overcome the decline, a focus in the pharmaceutical industry in recent years has been to use genetics to minimize the risk throughout the drug discovery process. This chapter highlights how various types of genetic information, from genome-wide association studies to rare disease genetics, can be used to identify new targets. From that point, the chapter shifts focus to discuss how the putative targets can be validated and provides examples of how this has been done and the benefits/drawbacks of the various approaches. We also look to the future of reverse translation, discussing new trends and the move towards improved molecular taxonomy of disease and how this supports precision medicine approaches." @default.
