- W3036931818 abstract "Abstract Obesity has been recognized as a contributing factor to various pelvic floor disorders. Specifically, the impact of obesity on urinary and anal incontinence (AI) has been evaluated in the international literature. The prevalence and pathophysiology of urinary incontinence (UI) in the obese population have been investigated more extensively, whereas data on AI and obesity are scarce and less informative. Studies have correlated UI in obese patients with increases in intraabdominal pressure, an association that is less evident in patients suffering from fecal incontinence (FI). The impact of weight-loss strategies, including bariatric procedures on urinary and FI, seems to be promising; however, further studies are needed to reach definitive conclusions, particularly, in the field of AI. Long-term outcomes are also inconclusive highlighting the need for further research. In the present chapter, we present an overview on current evidence on urinary and AI in obese women." @default.
