- W3037977706 abstract "Atomically thin monolayer semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have been studied extensively in recent years due to their unique band structure and strong light–matter interaction that make them highly attractive for fundamental research and optoelectronics and quantum photonics device applications. Due to the strong confinement and reduced dielectric screening, Coulomb interactions between excited charge carriers are strong and give rise to formation of strongly bound excitons being stable even at room temperature. The optical and optoelectronic properties of monolayer TMDs are dominated by these stable excitons. In that regard, understanding and controlling photophysics of excitons and other excitonic complexes are important to increase the efficiency of optoelectronics and quantum photonics devices. Here, I review the optical properties of semiconducting monolayer TMDs by mainly focusing on the photophysics of exciton and other excitonic complexes, such as trions, biexcitons, dark excitons, and interlayer excitons. Quantum light emission and its deterministic creation in TMDs are also reviewed at the end of this chapter." @default.
