- W3039292704 abstract "Abstract The objective of this study is to develop ground granulated blast furnace slag based geopolymer composite by replacing 60% slag with silica fume. Both slag and silica fume are aluminosilicates that are activated using catalytic liquid system (CLS). The catalytic liquid system is a blend of Na2SiO3 and NaOH solutions. The developed geopolymer composite is investigated for its strength in compression at the age of 7, 28 and 56 days. Three catalytic liquid systems are prepared using three ratios of Na2SiO3 and NaOH (i.e. 0.5, 1.5 and 2.5). The catalytic liquid system to geopolymer binder ratio (CLS/GB) of 0.3, 0.35 and 0.4 are used in the present study. Total 9 combinations of catalytic liquid system and CLS/GB ratios are used to develop 81 samples of geopolymer composite. Water to geopolymer binder ratio of 0.4 is used for all the samples. The results showed that, for a particular CLS/GB ratio, the compressive strength of the geopolymer concrete increases as the Na2SiO3/NaOH ratio increase. The maximum strength in compression is obtained at CLS/GB ratio of 0.40 and Na2SiO3/ NaOH ratio of 2.5. Therefore, it can be concluded that CLS/GB ratio of 0.40 and Na2SiO3/ NaOH ratio of 2.5 can be used to develop GGBS based geopolymer composite (i.e. geopolymer concrete) with silica fume in an optimized manner." @default.
