- W3040373437 abstract "Abstract The aim of this experiment is to familiarize with the operation and function of a multichannel analyser (MCA), to study the absorption of gamma rays and the scattering of gamma rays. The absorbers that were used in this the experiment were aluminium (Al), Stannum (Sn), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), and some pieces of wood with varies in densities. The best gain was determined to proceed the procedure. In addition, the determination the effect of thickness, atomic number (Z) of absorber, and densities of an absorber to the attenuation was done. Varies of thickness of Al and Sn, and different Z of absorbers such as Pb and Cu were used to observe the effect towards attenuation. Finally, for scattering of gamma rays, different angles were used to determine the intensity of the radiation beam. The result found that gain 500 give a best spectrum which produce less summation area on the graph. Moreover, as the thickness increase, the attenuation was also increasing. The higher the Z of an absorber, the more attenuation will occur. As the angle increases, the scattering increasing. It can be concluded that the increase the thickness of the attenuator will increase the occurring of attenuation. And the scattering increases as the angle of the source increases." @default.
