- W304082729 abstract "We have demonstrated (in conjunction with our colleagues) that muon catalysis cycling rates increase rapidly with increasing deuterium-tritium gas temperatures and densities. Furthermore, muon-capture losses are significantly smaller than predicted before the experiments began, although recent theoretical work narrows the gap between theory and observation. As a result of these effects, we have been able to achieve muon-catalyzed fusion yields of 150 fusions/muon (average). The fusion energy thereby released, nearly 3 GeV/muon, significantly exceeds theoretical expectations, and still higher yields are expected. Therefore, we are exploring the limits of muon-catalyzed fusion, to provide answers to questions regarding energy applications of muon-catalyzed fusion." @default.
