- W3043228402 abstract "Samarium is the third most volatile element among the lanthanides and a bright silvery metal havingoxidizing properties in the presence of air and water with a density is similar to that of Zinc. It possesses amoderately hard physical structure. Sm2O3 - Ga2O3 systems include Sm3Ga5O12 [3Sm2O3 .5Ga2O3] having thegarnet type structure, Sm3Ga06 [3Sm2O3.Ga2O3] having trilanthanidegallate structure and Sm4Ga2O9[2Sm2O3.Ga2O3]. RE4Ga2O9 crystallizes in monoclinic structure with a space group of P21/c and is isostructuralwith RE4Al2O9. In the crystal structure of RE4Al2O9, two rare-earth atoms are in six fold coordinations and two arein sevenfold coordinations. In this paper we report Samarium gallate compounds; Sm4Ga2O9 -synthesized through the solid state reactionmethod and Sm3GaO6 andSm3Ga5O12 - synthesized through the combustion method. X-ray diffraction techniquewas used to examine the structure and phase purity of compounds. It shows that Sm4Ga2O9 crystallizes inmonoclinic structure, Sm3GaO6 in orthorhombic structure and Sm3Ga5O12 in the cubic structure. The crystallitesize of the compounds prepared through different synthesis methods are analyzed and compared using Scherrersequation and Williamson-Hall plot. Strain contribution is also evaluated from Williamson-Hall plot. Opticalcharacteristics of the compounds were investigated using UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and band gap energieswere calculated and optical transition in band gap region was investigated. In the UV region, this materials showsa characteristic property of high absorption whereas shows less absorption while in the visible region, and can beused in UV filter applications." @default.
