In Latin American countries, older adults were considered as people who completed a productive cycle and who have nothing to offer to the labor and family field, discarding the background of experience they have. This research aimed to determine the risk factors associated with domestic abuse of the elderly in Duran county. The study was conducted under a quantitative, descriptive cross-sectional approach. It worked with an intentional sample of 100 older adults between the ages of 65 to 85 years and older. The instruments used were: cards to identify sociodemographic data, Coopersmith self-esteem inventory, scale II of social isolation, stress-dealing questionnaire, and survey. It was obtained as a result that older adults presented a medium level of isolation and sadness, feel alone, perceive indifference, and little demonstration of affection on the part of their relatives also showed a slight depression and the strategy of coping with the most commonly used stress It was religion. The risk factors associated with abuse, which were evidenced, were of a relational type because the elderly experienced inadequate treatment in family interaction. Therefore, it is necessary to implement adequate processes of comprehensive attention to the needs of older adults, with the participation of all sectors, and awareness of society to reduce the violence figures recorded in this vulnerable group." @default.
