- W304463863 abstract "It is now recognized that cancer cells express gene products which in embryonic life are associated with embryonic, extra-embryonic, and trophoblast lineages. Recently, attention has been drawn to the migratory embryonic cells and their neoplastic counterparts such as C-cell, germ cell, and micro-endocrine neoplasias. Elevated expression of gene products which qualify as differentiation antigens also characterize a number of tumors. From the direction of molecular biology has now come the definition of a variety of oncogenes: cellular, viral, transforming, etc. The accepted concept, however, is that it is the expression of certain cellular genes which accounts both for transformation of cells, their metastatic propensity, and the maintenance of the malignant state. “Are oncogenes oncodevelopmental genes?” is the question which is explored in this presentation." @default.
