- W30463013 abstract "This paper presents the various aspects of the determination of design traffic loading on pavements carrying light volumes but often heavily loaded vehicles. There are a number of conditions which exist in western areas which make the collection of adequate traffic data a difficult task. These include the effect of remoteness, seasonal variations, opening up of new sealed routes, enforcement techniques and presence of road trains. Weight of loads breach records show that there may be a greater frequency and magnitude of vehicle overloading in western areas. CULWAY data show that the effect of road trains is significant, therefore a classification count is essential to carry out a proper traffic analysis. Pavement designers need to consider a range of factors in their calculations of design traffic, including the degree of overloading likely, usage of the pavement in wet conditions, the durability of the pavement materials and effect of the environment (A)." @default.
