It has application in the fieldof welding of ship building industry, pressure vessels, structural components of bridges, petrochemicalindustries, heat exchangers etc. it is also widely used in rail repairing work, cladding, hard facing, to make thesteel corrosion resistant. An experimental study of the optimizing technique named Taguchi based greyrelational analysis is conducted for the optimization of Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) parameters in hardfacing with consideration of multiple weld qualities. This study helps to make best use of available resources i.e.machine power and raw material and to get best quality weld in strength, appearance, and economy. To reducethe no. of experiments conducted Taguchis Orthogonal Arrays technique is used. Taguchis L9 Orthogonalarray was selected for experiment. The input parameters selected for the experiment are arc voltage, weldingspeed, wire feed rate. Three levels of each parameter were selected. The output parameters selected were weldreinforcement weld width and deposition rate. In the experiment the weld width and deposition rate aremaximized and weld reinforcement is minimized.The validity of model was analyzed by ANOVA. F test is performed to check the significance of parameter at95 % interval. Pooled ANOVA is used to calculate the total error. The analysis indicate that of the threeparameters investigated speed, welding and wire feed rate has statistically effect on selected weld beadcharacteristics ." @default.
