- W3047398486 abstract "This chapter provides real-world and relatable examples of how various aspects of the petroleum industry are responding to the strict emission standards implemented globally. It presents detailed examples related to improvements in diesel emissions and fossil-based power production. The chapter provides the link to selected analytical techniques together with their use for environmental impact monitoring. Improvements in performance and reduction in diesel emissions can be accomplished through diesel engine and exhaust modification. With respect to diesel engines, particulate matter and nitrogen oxide are the main concerns. Both coal mining and sourcing of natural gas are responsible for methane release. The combustion or burning of fossil fuels produces energy but also results in harmful emissions, including nitrogen oxide and CO2. Sulfur oxides produced from coal combustion are harmful in terms of their ability to react in the atmosphere to create acid rain." @default.
