- W3048100416 abstract "The European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery (EJVES) typically existed in traditional paper format with a subscription based web platform, later presenting an online #openaccess companion, the EJVES Short Reports (EJVESSR). It has continued to evolve in the context of how the journal showcases its academic output, particularly with the development of an expansive social media profile via Twitter (@EJVES_ESVS),1Chaudhuri A. As promised, you can now find abundant audiovisual material with which to interact. And the response from social media confirms our intuition that this format was much anticipated. @EJVES_ESVS is now over six years old and >3 900 followers strong. The Twitter feed continues to consolidate and evolve with some notable initiatives. The importantly emphasised #openaccess #EJVESEditorsChoice articles enjoy centre stage online as the “pinned tweet” and can create around > 4 000 impressions each. “Twitter impressions” measure the number of times tweets appear in users' timelines or search results. An analysis of the last three years indicates both a cumulative increase in followers (Fig. 2A) and a rise in impressions (averaging > 30 000/month, particularly at the time of the Annual Meeting in September (Fig. 2B). Such numbers gain traction as journals assess their own Twitter interactions,3Grossman R. The platform also allows us to make important announcements such as the recent uplift to the Journal Impact Factor, (currently 5.3), which created > 8 000 impressions on Twitter. There are over 40 available open access podcasts from the EJVES Vascular Forum webpage (https://www.ejvesreports.com/content/podcasts), in @SoundCloud and in @Spotify, with almost 1 500 streams in only five months. There is also a direct access #EJVESpodcast widget within the Twitter feed, to conveniently listen to at work or otherwise, which has become immensely popular. The podcasts include short educational pieces on scientific methodology (retrospective studies, major sources of bias, multiple hypothesis testing, and the assumption of causality etc.) or specific clinical issues (shared decision making, how to avoid lymphatic wound complications after vascular groin surgery, surveillance after carotid interventions, etc.) derived from previously published edutorials in the main sister journal, the EJVES;6Meuli L. The number of submitted papers keeps going up, with a 20% increase from 2018 to 2019 and a further 10% increase in the first semester of 2020, with a comparable increase in published articles. You can find a variety of unusual case reports, original research and short reports, surgical videos, images, and invited commentaries online. The published papers are also available through Twitter via @EJVES_ESVS using the #EJVESforum hashtag. A new feature initiated in April is the visual abstracts of EJVES Vascular Forum original research papers and the EJVES Editor's Choice papers. They are released on Twitter every month (#EJVESvisualabstract) and are all gathered at the journal's webpage (https://www.ejvesreports.com/content/visual_abstracts), creating an average 3 791 (up to 6 693) impressions per item. The latest addition to the journal's interactive menu, and following its name, is the recently launched forum. Every paper in EJVES Vascular Forum can be commented on at the webpage. Additionally, we will soon organise a monthly event, where our specially assigned Assistant Editors from different parts of the world, the Editor in Chief, and the authors will get together online to comment live on their paper. The event is open for everyone to participate in and to debate the chosen paper. We seek to learn and connect different perspectives for in depth analysis and clinical application. With the current limitations on physical travel from #COVID19, finding newer avenues to disseminate academic information becomes increasingly relevant, and @EJVES_ESVS continues to push this aspect. There will be more to come, #watchthisspace!" @default.
