- W3048213206 abstract "Abstract All previous polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) carbon molecular sieve (CMS) membranes reported in the literature have been in supported form. Those CMS membranes have large non-selective molecular cutoff pores. We have made self-standing PVDC CMS membrane for the first time using a facile melt extrusion-pyrolysis process. Unlike the supported membranes, the new CMS membranes are very selective for CO2/CH4 and C2H4/C2H6 separations. The new PVDC CMS membranes have about 46% larger micropore volume and 54% higher Young's modulus than those derived from Matrimid® polyimide. The 45 μm thick PVDC CMS membrane has 6–20 times higher H2 and CO2 permeance than Matrimid® CMS membranes of similar thickness. The new membranes also showed stable separation performance after storage under nitrogen for one month." @default.
