- W3049203979 abstract "Key content Many women with pelvic floor problems have a mixture of urogynaecological and colorectal symptoms. The most common conditions include faecal incontinence, constipation, obstructive defaecation syndrome, haemorrhoids and anal fissures. Investigations specific to these pelvic floor disorders comprise imaging (endoanal ultrasound and defaecating proctography, including dynamic magnetic resonance imaging), and physiology (anorectal manometry, pudendal nerve terminal motor latency and colonic transit studies). There is a close relationship between the urogynaecology and colorectal specialties; here, we provide guidance with respect to the care of women with pelvic floor functional bowel problems. Learning objectives To be aware of the most common low intestinal tract conditions that gynaecology patients present with. To be able to undertake a relevant consultation, order investigations and formulate an appropriate management plan. Ethical issues Ineffective and delayed management of women with pelvic floor problems leads to considerable deterioration of quality of life. Inappropriate treatment has medico‐legal consequences." @default.
