- W3049512768 abstract "The paper was aimed at establishing the interdependence between the concentrations of free fatty acids, triglyceride, glucose and insulin in the blood serum and the appearance of ketosis in the 10 ketotic cows and 10 healthy Holstein dairy cows in the postpartal period. Blood tissue samples were taken from all the tested cows by punction of the jugular vein. Separation of the blood serum after spontaneous coagulation was performed at room temperature by centrifugation at 3000 rotations/min. The serum was kept at -18°C till testing. The concentration of free fatty acids in the blood serum was determined calorimetrically after Ducombe (1968), the concentration of triglycerides in the blood serum by the enzymatic method (bio Merieux Ref. 6.123.6), that of glucose in fresh blood by the enzymatic method specific to glucose (Dextrostix) on the Eyeton refract meter, while that of insulin was ascertained in the blood serum samples by the RIA method, using commercial test packages (INEP-Zemun). A significantly higher concentration of free fatty acids (p<0.01) existed in the blood serum of ketotic cows compared to that in the healthy ones, denoting a presence of more intensive lipomobilization in ketotic cows, which may be one of the crucial mechanisms in the etiopathogenesis of ketosis. The concentration of triglycerides in the blood serum of ketotic cows was significantly lower (p<0.01) compared to that in the healthy ones, which means that triglycerides are accumulating in liver cells of ketotic cows. Hypoinsulinemia and hypoglicemia were observed in ketotic cows as well as a negative correlation (r=-0,50) between the concentrations of free fatty acids and the level of insulin in the blood serum, which may be one of the factors responsible for the lower lipogenesis subsequently leading to increasing lipolisis and the ketogenesis process." @default.
