- W3049596498 abstract "Abstract Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) is the second most frequent neurodegenerative disorder following Alzheimer disease. Clinical characteristics of DLB, based on the fourth DLB Consortium presented in 2017, consist of symptoms such as cognitive fluctuation, spontaneous and progressive motor symptoms of Parkinsonism, recurrent visual hallucinations, REM Sleep Behavior Disorders (RBDs), autonomic symptoms, and others. Although the prodromal phase acquired relevance in all types of dementia for the search of an early therapeutic intervention, it is poorly characterized in DLB. RBD, frontal-executive and visuospatial dysfunctions, some psychiatric symptoms, orthostatic hypotension, mild parkinsonian signs, hyposmia, and decreased striatal dopamine transporter (DAT) uptake could be features of this stage. ALBA Screening Instrument is a reliable and valid tool that consists of 17 items for the assessment of Lewy body disease, even in prodromal phase, that can be administered by nonmedical neuropsychological staff in about 10 min. Future research should focus on validating biomarkers for early diagnosis of DLB." @default.
