Yet reports appear each year in the literature to show that adverse reactions occur either through contamination or as a result of the presence of impurities. For example, an equimolecular mixture of glucose and fructose, derived from sucrose and called invert sugar, has recently been found [35] to produce adverse reactions on intravenous injection into some patients and these reactions have resulted from the presence of minute quantities of impurities and not from microbial contamination.
