This study adds to the limited research on conditions of cultural employment in the global South. National employment data for South Africa is used to analyse particularly the participation of women and youth in cultural occupations. Results showed that CCIs provide employment for nearly 7% of the working population, about 35% of whom are youth. Youth who work in the cultural sector are more likely to be employed informally than those in non-cultural jobs, and a much lower proportion of young women are in cultural occupations than men." @default.
