- W3081289775 abstract "Amit Lavie-Dinur and Yuval Karniel look into the Big Brother’s popular adaptation to Israeli television (2008–), which poses fascinating questions in the unique cultural Israeli context with regards to changing social values and transformations in the perceptions of privacy and the private sphere. Israel’s is a unique cultural history, which evolved in a society founded on tenets of collectivism and communal nationalism, championing solidarity rather than individualism, thereby expecting individuals to sacrifice the self and desire for privacy in favor of the nation and the public. In recent decades, however, Israeli culture is adapting to Western liberal and capitalist principles, and is adopting more individualistic values, along with new perceptions of privacy. Lavie-Dinur and Karniel examine the levels of exposure in which Israeli participants engage, focusing on the loss of privacy in Israeli society as negotiated in this highly watched Israeli reality show." @default.
