- W3081429558 abstract "The psychosocial assessment should focus on the following areas: overview of the presenting complaint, including pain, sexual function, satisfaction and distress, mood, impact on relationship, and previous treatments and outcomes; cognitive, affective, behavioral, and relational contributors; and the role of past experiences, such as childhood victimization. Vulvodynia has significant consequences for affected women and their partners’ sexual, psychological, and relationship well-being. Population-based studies indicate that depression and anxiety disorders are more prevalent in women as consequences of the vulvar pain when compared to healthy controls. An epidemiological study showed that, on average, 60% of women suffering from chronic vulvar pain sought treatment for their condition, and only about half of those women received a formal diagnosis. Such findings underscore the importance of routine inquiry about vulvar pain. As with other chronic pain conditions, psychosocial factors contribute to the onset, exacerbation, and maintenance of vulvodynia, and thus require careful assessment." @default.
