Transcriptomics studies are used for quantification of alteration in expression level for each gene among different transcriptome samples; mapping and annotation of the transcriptome; and determination of the functional configuration of each gene in the genome. This chapter discusses recent research on the next generation of sequencing platforms, in particular with transcriptomic tools, in finfish and shellfish aquaculture applications for human benefit. It highlights the microarray and RNA sequencing and their substantial contribution to the understanding of the aquaculture transcriptome in terms of transcriptome annotation, determination of the transcriptional structure of genes, and quantitative analysis of transcriptome dynamics during different biological processes in finfishes and shellfishes." @default.
