• W3083108376 abstract "A study was to assess the effectiveness of psychoeducational programme on awareness and the readiness to change the abusive behaviour among persons with alcohol use in selected community setting. Quasi experimental design, One group pretest and post test research design was adopted to evaluate the effectiveness of psycho educational programme among persons with alcohol use. Psycho education was given to the persons with alcohol use those who met the inclusion criteria. The study was conducted at sothupakkam village, Melmaruvathur. The simple random sampling technique was administered and the sample size was determined as 50. Assessment was done with the questionnaire prepared to analyze the awareness about alcoholism and readiness to change the abusive behaviour, to the persons with alcohol use and then psycho education was provided. The posttest was done after 2 weeks to assess the effectiveness of psycho education on improving the awareness and to increase the readiness to change from alcohol use. CONCLUSION:In pretest out of 50 persons with alcohol use, 42 (84%), had inadequate awareness, four (8%) had moderate awareness and four (8%) had adequate awareness. In case of readiness to change 37 (74%) had low readiness to change, Nine (18%) had moderate desire to change, four (8%) had high readiness to change the abusive behaviour. In post test, five (10%) had inadequate awareness, ten (20%) had moderate awareness and 35 (70%) had adequate awareness. In post test the readiness to change 10 (20%) had low readiness to change, Seven (14%) had moderate readiness to change and 33 (66%) had high readiness to change the abusive behaviour. The t value in awareness about alcoholism was 10.77 and the t value in readiness to change was 9.07, which was compared with tabulated value at the level of p<0.05 was significant. So it has been concluded that the psycho educational programme was effective in creating awareness and readiness to change the abusive behaviour among persons with alcohol use. NURSING IMPLICATIONS:The findings of the study revealed the implications on Nursing service, Nursing education, Nursing administration and Nursing research. NURSING SERVICE:❖ The present study focuses on the need for working in psycho education to create awareness for their motivation from changing abusive behavior. ❖ Nurses can collaborate with the other health team members in providing psycho education to the person with alcohol use. ❖ Nurses need to be trained to provide psycho education for person with alcohol use. NURSING EDUCATION: ❖ Student nurses can be given education regarding awareness, psycho educational technique to the patients. ❖ Staff nurses can be given in service education regarding importance of psycho education to the person with alcohol use. ❖ A psycho education programme can be conducted for the parents and significant members involved in the care of alcohol dependents. NURSING ADMINISTRATION:❖ The findings could be utilized as a basis for inservice education programmes for nurses and health professionals, who are working in hospital and community set up. ❖ Inservice education programme, conferences, workshop can be organized on various aspects of alcoholism and its management. ❖ Budget need to be allocated to organize various services and programmes to reduce alcoholism in the community. ❖ Incentives and rewards can be given to motivate the nurses to implement and participate in community psycho education. NURSING RESEARCH ❖ The effectiveness of the study can be verified by the nurses in the clinical and community settings. ❖ The findings of the study help to expand the scientific body of professional knowledge upon which further investigation can be conducted. ❖ Further study can be conducted among other types of drug abuse." @default.
