The impact of overuse of fossil fuels is recently realized in terms of global warming and climate change. Fossil fuels have better fuel properties than biofuels; however, vast utilization and non-renewability cause environmental problems. Biofuels have low profile fuel properties as compared with petroleum fuels, which have many merits such as renewable and carbon-neutral fuel, no sulfur, clean burning with less greenhouse gas emissions, being ecofriendly, etc. Recently, the biorefinery approaches have focused on the generation of multiple products viz., biofuel, biochemicals, and biocomposite from the biomass feedstocks with minimal waste generation. On the other hand, scientists are using nanotechnology to enhance biofuel process conversion efficiency. For this purpose, different nanocatalysts were tried with different biofuel production technologies to enhance the process conversion efficiency and biofuel quantity and quality. This chapter deals with the applications of a variety of nanocatalysts used in thermochemical/biochemical/chemical conversion of the different biomass feedstocks to produce different biofuels—namely, syngas, biooil, biodiesel, biogas, and hydrogen—as well their impact on reaction conditions and product yield. Also, the challenges in the usage of nanocatalysts in the biomass conversion process, problems associated with toxicity of the nanocatalysts, and its environmental impact are briefly discussed." @default.
