• W3085340706 abstract "This study aims to quantify health-related quality of life (HRQoL) by asthma control status among asthma patients in five countries (China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and the U.S.). The data from the National Health and Wellness Survey (NHWS) were analyzed (China 2017 N=19,994; Japan 2018 N=30,000; Korea 2020 N=20,108; Taiwan 2020 N=20,050; the U.S. 2018 N=74,977). The NHWS is a self-reported, Internet-based survey administered to the adult population of each country. Socio-demographics, health and lifestyle characteristics were assessed for all respondents. HRQoL outcomes included Short Form Health Survey (SF-12v2/36v2), and EuroQol 5 Dimension (EQ-5D index and visual analogue scale). Descriptive and bivariate analyses were performed comparing asthma patients who were controlled (Asthma Control Test [ACT] score > 19) and uncontrolled (ACT score ≤ 19) on HRQoL outcomes. The total number of respondents with a self-reported physician diagnosis of asthma were 280 in China, 803 in Japan, 278 in Korea, 291 in Taiwan, and 5,433 in the U.S. The proportion of uncontrolled asthma was different across countries with China having the highest (63.6%) and Japan having the lowest (32.6%). The uncontrolled asthma groups in China, Korea, and the U.S. had significantly lower physical and mental component summary scores, and SF-6D health utilities index than the controlled groups (all p <0.001 and reaching MIDs). Comparing between countries, the uncontrolled group in Korea had the lowest physical component scores, SF-6D health utilities, and EQ5D index score than those in other countries. Asthma patients who were controlled in all five countries have similar HRQoL outcomes which were close to the general population norms. The results demonstrated the substantial unmet needs in asthma control across countries. Furthermore, results suggested that asthma control status is associated with significant reductions on HRQoL in all countries except mental component summary score and SF-6D health utilities index in Taiwan." @default.
