- W3086886528 abstract "Two important questions about genomic evaluation are 1- the effectiveness or not effectiveness of using superior animals as reference population on the accuracy of estimated breeding value of selection candidates and 2- the effect of selection of superior animals for embryo transfer based on genomic evaluation on genetic improvement. In the first part of the current research, the accuracy of genomic evaluations when only superior animals (strategy1) were reference population was compared to situations in which the animals in reference population were a random sample of population (strategy2) and were selected from superior and inferior animals (strategy3) by simulation. The results showed that using only superior animals as reference population would decrease the accuracy of genomic evaluation. If the ratio of animals in the reference group is low (for example 10%) the difference between strategy1 and the other strategies would be more than the situation in which this ratio is high (for example 50%). In the second part of the current research the effect of selection of animals for embryo transfer based on genomic evaluation on genetic improvement of Iranian Holstein dairy cattle was estimated and the genetic improvement of embryo transfer with costs of it was compared. In the first strategy 10% of superior heifers, cows in parity 1 and 2 were assumed to be donor. In the second strategy heifers were not assumed as donors. The average genetic superiorities of progenies produced with strategy 1 for net merit (NM$) were US$54.25, US$64.17 and US$71.27 using traditional evaluation, genomic evaluation with 3k chip and genomic evaluation with 50k chip and with strategy 2 were US$68.14, US$84.04 and US$87.21, respectively and for each strategy using each method of breeding value estimation, genetic gain resulted from embryo transfer could justify the economic loss of it." @default.
