- W3087011014 abstract "Reproductive performanceis a major contributing factor totheefficiency ofgoat and sheepmeat production. Therefore, enhancementof reproductive capacity of goat and sheep flocks is among the mosteffective mechanisms of increasing theoverallmeat production. There isan inessential difference between productivity and reproductivity, asalmost of the reproductive parameters are the ones that greatlyinfluence production, consequently the viability of any goat and sheepenterprise: stated differently, production is equal to reproduction.Reproductive performance and its interactions on the productivity ofgoats and sheepflocks, especially with regards to the management ofeach ewe’s/doe’s lifetime production (femalereplacementdetermination), are structural grantors of acomplexbiologicalsystemthat determine meat yield. The principal goal ofgoat and sheepreproduction is to iterate generations for a specified productionintention, first and foremost meat, milk or wool as defined by species orbreedsand their crossesand in special circumstances, the production ofanimals of superior economic priority. Some of the measures ofreproductive performance include parameters such as survival rate, prolificacy, sexual maturity, lambing age and interval, conception rates,kid/lambs weaned per year etc. Reproductive characteristics aresensitive to environmentalfactors as a resultcan easily adapt to soundflock reproductive management practices. More or less importantvariables goat and sheep farmers need to attentively considertopromote reproductive performanceare ageof animals, weather, season, and nutrition. There is evidence that nutrition and management areContents lists available at SjournalsScientific Journal ofAnimalScienceJournal homepage:www.sjournals.comReviewarticleCODEN (USA): SJASABNever Assan/ Scientific Journal of Animal Science (2020)9(5)608-619609major determinants of kids’/lambs survival rates, while genetic has beena dominant factor controlling prolificacy. Regardless of the fact thatgenetics of animals is important in goat and sheepreproduction, reproductive traits are lowly heritable as a result any attempt togenetically improve reproductive efficiency becomes slow and difficult. This entailsreproductive efficiency through genetic selection iscompletely implausible. It is assumed that understanding the measuresof reproduction, especially females in order to attain an optimumnumber of new-born of the required attributes at the most convenienttime and at a minimum cost is critical formutton and chevonproducers. The earlierthe replacement females starts to givebirth toyoung ones, the more the young onesthey producein their life time, and also thelonger thefemales’productivelifeas a result contributing tolong termflockproductivity.Protracted kidding/lambing interval will reduceoverall productivity in goats and sheep meat production, whilepersistent check on reproductive indicators throughout all phases in thereproductive cycle allowsproducersto adopt husbandry managementpractices that are meant to optimise overallmeatproductivityin goatsand sheep. The present review givesaninsight on some of the indicatorsof reproductive performanceand their possibleimpact on the overallproductivityin goats and sheep meat production." @default.
