- W3087178162 abstract "With the advent of modern engineered fibers and highly developed electronics a new variety of textile material has been evolved which is known as smart textiles. A smart textile generally has five major functions, that is, sensors, actuators, data processing, energy supply, and communication. Development of thin, flexible, and highly sensitive sensors has made it possible to detect the problems faced by the human during sickness or while participating in sports. This article reviews the development in all five areas and their future directions. Technologies such as printing, coating, lamination, and embroidery have been used for producing thin, flexible sensors on textile substrate, or plastic which helped in producing wearable smart textiles. The textile yarns, fabrics have been converted into conductive materials by chemical methods, mixing metallic fibers and other methods. Human biomonitoring is one of the most important uses of smart textiles, which either reacts or communicates messages depending on the values sensed by the sensors." @default.
