- W3088582552 abstract "The paper examined the issue of dishonesty among tertiary education lecturers in Anambra State with a view to identifying the prevalence, contributing factors, and management strategies for the way forward. Guided by three research questions, the study adopted a survey research design. A 20-item researcher-made questionnaire titled, “Dishonesty among Tertiary Institutions Lecturers Questionnaire (DBATILQ)” was used to collect data. The questionnaire was duly face-validated and tested for reliability and using the Cronbach Alpha and a reliability coefficient of .87 was obtained for the DBATILQ, hence was assumed reliable for the study. The study, involved a population of 350 lecturers, randomly selected from the seven public tertiary institutions in Anambra State of Nigeria. Means Scores and Standard Deviation was adopted in the data analysis. Findings revealed, among others, that Delay preparation of students’ results, Delay preparation of students’ results exchange grades / marks for sex and or money (known as sorting), plagiarism, falsification/forgery of academic qualification, covering up examination malpractice cases, assisting students in acts of dishonesty etc. are among the common dishonest behaviour of the tertiary education lecturers. It was also revealed that both the male and female lecturers agree that corruption, pressure from students and or their guardians / parents, get-rich-quick, lax attitude towards punishing culprit lectures and desperation for promotion, were reasons why they indulge in dishonest behaviour. Concluding, the researcher suggested among others, that management of colleges of education in the South- East, Nigeria should ensure proper supervision of lecturers’ activities by deans and heads of departments and report or sanction lecturers appropriately without fear or favour." @default.
