- W3089231405 abstract "The electrocardiogram (ECG) is essential in the diagnosis and management of ischemic heart disease both in the acute and chronic setting. The ECG is a valuable tool that provides prognostic information throughout the spectrum of patients with coronary artery disease – acute coronary syndromes before and after medical or reperfusion therapy, stable coronary artery disease, and in asymptomatic patients. This chapter reviews ECG findings and their relationship to prognosis in the setting of acute coronary syndromes. Acute coronary syndromes include ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), and unstable angina (UA). The ECG is valuable in diagnosing the presence of myocardial ischemia and many of the ECGs findings during a presentation with either UA/NSTEMI are useful prognostically. Sinus tachycardia can be due to a number of mechanisms in the setting of an acute coronary syndrome, including pain, hypovolemia, hypoxia, heart failure, shock, or due to medications." @default.
