- W3089286543 abstract "The exercise electrocardiogram (ECG) stress test, regardless of whether it incorporates noninvasive imaging modalities, provides information critical in assessing patients with chest pain. This chapter reviews ECG interpretation in cardiac stress testing with a focus on identification of myocardial ischemia. In the case of exercise-induced ischemia, the basic physiologic principle is that myocardial oxygen demand outstrips myocardial oxygen supply. Studies in normal individuals to assess the impact of exercise on changes in the ECG demonstrate that the P-wave amplitude increases with exercise while there is typically a decrease in the T-wave amplitude in early exercise. Various changes in the ECG can be observed for a patient with ischemia: changes in the Q Wave, R Wave, and S Wave; and ST depression and ST elevation. The optimal strategy for circumventing false-positive test results for the diagnosis of coronary disease in women requires the use of diagnostic scores." @default.
