- W3089615412 abstract "Background: Substance abuse and lack of awareness regarding hygiene are important problems among adolescent, especially in developing countries like India. School-based intervention with students involvement can be an effective tool against these problems. Methods: It was an interventional longitudinal study conducted in rural area of Vikarabad, Telangana, during December 2017–March 2018. After the due ethical clearance, institute permission and parents’ permission students from the 8th grade from selected schools were given intervention with their active participation regarding “Substance use” and “Health and Hygiene.” A pre-tested questionnaire was developed to assess their knowledge and same was used in pre-intervention, immediate post-intervention, and 1 month post-intervention phase. A total of 112 participants were included in the final analysis. Results: The participants’ mean knowledge score during pre-intervention, post-intervention, and 1 month post-intervention phase was 4.17, 8.54, and 8.67, respectively. Conclusion: Intervention with involvement of students can help in gaining and retaining knowledge regarding substance use and hygiene.
