- W3090735114 abstract "This chapter seeks to encourage the readers to view physical education from a different perspective. It explores different examples from a range of possible different perspectives. The chapter focuses on fundamental movement skills (FMS) which provide building blocks that underpin much learning in physical education. It also explores each of the three perspectives individually, and considers how FMS and social and cognitive development can be included in an approach to learning through alternative activities in different environments. The Western Australia Education Department suggested that physical development and movement is about experiencing and developing a range of FMS that improve co-ordination, locomotion, control, balance and manipulation. Pupils who have not developed their FMS are likely to have low/little confidence and motivation to participate in physical education in secondary school and physical activity throughout their life. The chapter further explores briefly what is meant by social and cognitive skills, and considers how these can be embedded in teaching physical education." @default.
