- W3091867946 abstract "The development of traffic in Germany in recent decades has been characterised above all by an increase in the distances travelled and an increase in car, truck and air traffic. For at least 30 years, the associated negative consequences have prompted planning concepts for traffic avoidance, modal shift and traffic management. Significant successes can be seen only in terms of improved management, while there have been selective successes in terms of modal shift but with a simultaneous increase in the distances covered, a development which is fed by numerous socially desirable developments. The article emphasises the subsidiarity principle and sees responsibility for climate protection primarily in the hands of the federal government and the EU, although vehicle manufacturers also have a role to play. Combustion technology should be phased out as quickly as possible and vehicles that are more compatible with urban conditions developed. On the other hand, municipalities and regions can reduce the impact of local traffic through integrated urban and transport planning and thus contribute to a higher quality of life." @default.
